Permits
A transport permit authorises its holder to carry goods or passengers on the designated routes of the Velocity Interoperability Network. Permits are issued by the Transport Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network and state the routes, classes of traffic and period to which they apply.
Who needs a permit
- Operators carrying goods for hire or reward on any designated route.
- Operators carrying passengers for hire or reward on Class A or Class B routes.
- Member organisations moving heavy or hazardous goods on their own account.
- Any operator using a Class C service route or a Class D restricted route.
Who does not need a permit
- Private individuals travelling with their own personal effects.
- Members' staff moving between sites of the same member on Class A or Class B routes.
- Defence and Emergency Services vehicles acting under their own authority.
How to apply
- The name and address of the applicant, and of the member organisation on whose behalf goods or passengers will be carried.
- The routes, or classes of route, on which the permit is to be used.
- The nature of the goods or passengers to be carried and the expected frequency of movements.
- The period for which the permit is sought, up to a maximum of two years.
Applications are made by email to contact@transport.gov.vin and should set out each of the points listed above. The Department acknowledges applications within five working days and normally issues a decision within twenty. A permit that is granted is sent to the applicant by email and must be produced on request while it is in use.
