Press Release
Conditions of Traffic and Maintenance Programme Published
Office of the Spokesperson

The Transport Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published the conditions of traffic that apply on every designated route. Seven general conditions apply to all traffic, covering the carrying of permits, precedence between classes of traffic, the fitness of vehicles, the carriage of hazardous goods, hours of operation, the reporting of incidents and compliance with closure notices. Limits on speed and gross weight, and the hours during which a route is open, are set for each class of route.
The Department also published its inspection standards and its programme of planned works from 14 September to 11 December 2026. Trunk routes are inspected weekly, regional routes fortnightly and service routes monthly. Seven items of planned work are scheduled, including single line working on Route A2 while its principal crossing is inspected, a speed restriction on the central section of Route A1 in October, and the closure of Route A3 for one Sunday in November for surface renewal.
Planned works are notified at least fourteen days in advance. Defects on any designated route may be reported to the Department by email and are acknowledged within one working day. The conditions of traffic, the class limits and the programme of works are set out on the Conditions of traffic and Maintenance and closures pages of this site.
